Our history

The National University of Catamarca was founded in September, 1972. Its creation is related to the history of the National Teacher Training Institute, an educative institution relevant at national level. This institute created opportunities for people from the northwest of Argentine, as it was place where the University started. At the beginning of the 70s, Argentina aimed at decentralizing big universities and providing each province with its own university. Therefore, President Agustin Lanusse signed a decree to launch our university.

Buildings and Dependencies

Most of the buildings and dependencies of the UNCA are located less than ten blocks from Plaza 25 de Mayo, where much of the commercial and administrative activity of the city of Catamarca is concentrated.

Exchange Testimonials

I began this path with fear and uncertainty, but it is a decision that I do not regret. I am very happy, it is a unique and unforgettable experience. If you are hesitating to make the exchange, do it and live the exchange because it is unique.

It is a pleasure for me personally to be going through this experience, which allows me to interact with other teaching and learning methodologies. It also opens horizons both culturally, socially, academically and personally. I invite all those who can carry out this experience to be encouraged, because it is a super cool and fruitful experience.

Always very grateful to UNCA and the Liaison Secretary for this opportunity, for this exchange, which I am doing in Poza Rica during a 6-month stay here in Mexico. Very happy and very satisfied with the responsibility of this Institute as of the National University of Catamarca. I invite other young people to be encouraged in this great adventure that is to carry out an exchange, since it adds a lot and the joy is enough.

Esteban Tula Norris

Landscape Engineering student. Faculty of Agricultural Sciences

I was a beneficiary of a student mobility scholarship through the CRISCOS program for the I-2020 semester at the Andean University of Cusco, Peru. It is always difficult to leave your comfort zone, with fears and uncertainties; however, my experience was AMAZING. Unfortunately, I had to go through a global pandemic, but thanks to the unconditional support of the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences and the National University of Catamarca, I was able to truly carry out what is called a cultural exchange not only in the academic sense, but also social, economic and politically. I was thus able to learn and understand more about the reality of our Latin American brothers. I highly recommend enjoying this UNIQUE experience that our University offers us.

Professor Jorge Alberto Perea

Works in the History Department of the Faculty of Humanities and PhD candidate in the PhD Program in Human Sciences

In 2020, through a student mobility scholarship (PILA), I agreed to spend a semester at the Faculty of Law of the Antonio Nariño University, in the city of Bogotá, Colombia. This university sheltered me from the first moment, providing me with academic excellence, cultural exchange and permanent accompaniment throughout my stay, causing in me a personal growth, reinforcing professional connections and developing friendships with colleagues and teachers. Arriving in another country with a culture and way of life totally different from ours generates the enthusiasm to explore everything new and different, providing an inexplicable mental openness. Now, already graduated, I can tell you that I will never forget what I experienced in that academic exchange, which marked my life, gave me knowledge, great colleagues and friends. I encourage you to live this experience and challenge, to embark in an unforgettable magical journey in which you will be permanently accompanied by the National University of Catamarca. Finally, I do want to emphasize that I am grateful to the Public University that gave me that opportunity, because without it, today I would not have been able to grow and say that I am a professional.
